“The Outsider” was loosely inspired by the works of French writer and philosopher Albert Camus, Chris’ many years living in Paris, as well as the recent Covid experience - all raising questions of identity and purpose when faced with isolation. Like Camus, Chris wanted the response to be one of courage, action and joy, and intended for the music to reflect this. It ranges from blues to free jazz and gospel, infused throughout with African and Middle Eastern motifs and grooves. Chris regards it as his finest musical project to date.

The album features some of Australia’s finest world music and jazz musicians with three horns, an oud maestro and a burning rhythm section with The Neck’s bassist Lloyd Swanton, virtuosic percussionist Adem Yilmaz and legendary drummer James "Pug" Waples. The complete line-up is Simon Ferenci, trumpet, Michael Avgenicos, sax, Alex Silver , trombone, John Robinson, oud, Chris Cody, piano, Lloyd Swanton, bass, James Waples, drums, and Adem Yilmaz, percussion.

Pianist and composer Chris Cody launches his long awaited “The Outsider” album along with a stunning all star, eight-piece ensemble at the Camelot Lounge.

Chris is an internationally recognised pianist and composer with a long list of albums to his credit. In a career spanning over 30 years, he has headlined at numerous international festivals including Paris Quartiers d’Eté London, Rome, Brussels Jazz Marathon, Stockholm, Munich, Marciac, Geneva, Ascona, Derry, Dar Es Salaam and Algiers and at a vast array of concert venues throughout the USA, Europe, Africa and Australasia, from the Village Gate NYC to the Munich Staatsoper.
